Your Descendants Update Summary

In preparation for Your Descendants Update launch in January, we’ve created a list of Frequently Asked Questions in order to provide you with further information should you require it.

Please do not send any documentation or details at this stage.

Look out for a Trust Matters email in January letting you know the programme is open and containing a link to the application.

We hope you have a safe and peaceful festive season.

What is Your Descendants Update?

Your Descendants Update is requesting information from Members about their children. The Trust will make a discretionary payment of £500 (less tax and NI or as your currency equivalent, less appropriate tax if applicable) to Members on completion of the Your Descendants Update application and a further discretionary payment of £500 (less tax and NI) will be made to Members for each child that you tell us about (subject to external validation).

Why does the Trust need this information?

The Trust is collecting information about Members and their children to help plan for the next and final generation of Beneficiaries and establish a horizon for a 10-year spending plan

What information do you need about my children?

You will be asked to provide your child’s full name, Date of Birth, gender and address.

If your child is over 16 you will also be asked to provide your child’s email address so we can invite them to register as a Child Member in their own right and access the Benefits that are available to them.

Stepchildren are Beneficiaries of the eaga Trust until they are 18 years of age therefore, they can register as Child Members between 16 years of age and up until their 18th birthday.

So, my stepchild is included in this?

As per the Trust Deed, stepchildren are Beneficiaries of the Trust until they are 18 years of age therefore, they should be included in Your Descendants Update if they are under 18 years of age. Please note: you will need to provide a marriage certificate to confirm they are legally your stepchildren.

My children are very young – do you want to know about them?

Yes, please register details of all your children from birth to adulthood.

My children are adults – do you want to know about them?

Yes, please register details of all your children from birth to adulthood.

How much is the payment for Your Descendants Update?

Each Member will receive £500 (less tax and NI or as your currency equivalent, less appropriate tax if applicable) for completing the Your Descendants Update application. Members who have children will be asked to register their details and will receive a further payment of £500 (less tax and NI or as your currency equivalent, less appropriate tax if applicable) per child, following validation of their birth certificate details.

My child’s Mother and Father both worked for eaga and are Trust Members, what will happen?

If two eaga Trust Members share a child (both Members are registered as parents on the child’s birth certificate), they will both need to register that child on each of their Your Descendants Update applications. The payment of £500 for registering a child will be split between the two Members, so each will receive £250. If for any reason, full payments are made to both members who are parents of a child in error, the Trust reserves the right to deduct the overpayment from any future payments from the Trust.

My child is already registered as a Child Member, will I miss out on the payment for them?

You will receive payment for your child who is already registered as a Child Member but you do still need to complete Your Descendants Update to confirm this is your only child, or advise any other children you have.

My child is a Member in their own right because they worked for Eaga too, will I receive a payment for them?

No, they will complete their own Your Descendants Update to register their children.

Who will the payment/s be made to?

Payment will be made to the Trust Member (parent).

Do you need my bank account information?

Yes, you will be asked to provide your bank account details as part of your application, for the payment to be made.

It is important you inform the Trust if your Bank details change to ensure that your payments are credited to the correct account.

Payroll will be created to deduct the required tax and National Insurance contributions (tax and social security for Members in Ireland).

When will I receive the payment?

You will receive the payment of £500 (less appropriate tax and national insurance) for completing the application, in February 2021.

It is not possible to currently advise on precise timings of the child registration payment as there are a number of factors to take into consideration such as; external dependencies, a presently unknown total number of Member’s children to process and the potential of shifting Coronavirus restrictions or lockdowns across the country. Any of which may lead to delays in the documentation being sourced and processed. What we can say is that we are intending for payments to be made monthly starting from the end of April 2021, so it is our expectation that you will receive your payment by the end of June 2021.

How will I receive the Your Descendants Data Payment?

Following feedback received from Members, you will be given the option of a single payment of £500 (less tax and National Insurance) or 5 monthly payments of £100 (less tax and National Insurance). All payments will be made direct to the bank account details you provide. Payroll will be created to deduct the required tax and National Insurance contributions.
Your selected preference will apply to the £500 payment for completing the application and the subsequent payment for any children registered.

Will I receive any documentation with my payment?

You will receive a letter showing the amount of the payment and deductions. Please keep this document in case you need to refer to it in the future.

For any UK Members who are over the State retirement age when the payment is made, if appropriate proof of date of birth is provided prior to the payment being processed, there will be no employee national insurance deducted.

I am on Universal Credit. Will the Your Descendants Update payment affect my benefits?

It will depend on your personal circumstances; the receipt of the Your Descendants Update payment may lead to a reduction in benefits. When the Your Descendants Update payment is made, we will send each UK Member a letter setting out the payment and the amounts deducted. The letter will also explain the nature of the payment, that it relates to a former employment (rather than current employment) and that it is a one-off payment, which will help Members to deal with any DWP (Department for Work and Pensions) queries.
